Hazel Bishop

I doubt many of you were around in the forties, but if you were, even as late as the sixties, you probably heard of Hazel Bishop. Hazel is credited for pioneering the first long lasting or indelible lipstick in the late forties and launching it for sale in 1950.

Seems like the long-lasting lip products of today still have not been able to overcome the major issue that Hazel Bishop encountered 68 years ago: Very drying. Hazel couldn't resolve it and though it's better today, these type of lip colors are still like wearing the Sahara.

In a nutshell, Hazel's involvement with her company didn't last very long, due to Raymond Spector and his advertising agency's involvement. After many problems and an unsuccessful lawsuit, Hazel moved on to a series of other careers.  But her name lives on as the inventor of the first smear-proof lipstick.
