Product Review: The Art of Flawless

The Art of Flawless is a new kit by Laura Geller sold on QVC. What drew me most to this kit was 1) the big highlighter compact, since I'm a sucker for all things glowy and there cannot ever be too much highlighter. (Well, there can be, as was proved by the lady at Merle Norman the other day, but that's another story.) And 2) a new powder foundation called Double Take Baked Versatile Powder Foundation was being introduced in this set. Then there are the little bonus goodies: Lash Fortifying Eyelash Primer, a brush, Lip Oil Tint in Hibiscus Pink, and the ubiquitous freebie makeup bag that generally comes with these type of kits.  As of this writing the kit is still available on QVC.

It will take an exceptional powder foundation to ever steal my heart away from Balance and Brighten. The only other one to ever come close is Bare Minerals Matte loose powder foundation. This new Double Take foundation is nice, but I think I still prefer Laura's original. Double Take is a little more full coverage, is somewhat denser and smoother; it does look good but sank into my pores a bit, even with a primer (Spackle) on. Laura Geller brought out Baked Elements in late 2013 and I didn't like it at all...too sheer and shiny for me. I know some 'Geller Girls' prefer it, but it was not for me. I thought it made me look greasy. Double Take is way better than Baked Elements, in my opinion, but still cannot surpass Balance and Brighten for a natural look that melds perfectly into my skin and doesn't sink into pores.
1/16/16 Update: I tried this today without the Spackle primer and it looked great! Almost as good as the original BnB. I have to eat my words on this one!

Can we talk about this highlighter though? Rosy Glow is the name of it and it was the main reason I got this kit because, frankly, I'm drawn to highlighters like a crow to bright objects. (Oooh, shiny!) It's beautiful without a doubt; Laura Geller's highlighters are the creme de la creme of highlighters. But if you already have the Baked Gelato highlighter in Ballerina, there's no need for Rosy Glow as they are virtually the same product.

I noticed in the reviews of this kit on QVC, there were a few complaints about the metal tip on the tinted lip oil being loose. I had the same issue, which causes me to have to store the tube upright, else it will leak. Otherwise, I did like the lip oil and the Hibiscus Pink is a great color. Being a tinted oil, it's not over-the-top bright and feels nice on. Not much staying power, however, but that was to be expected with an oil.

The jury is still out on the Fortifying Lashes lash primer. I think this is LG's take on the Estee Lauder Little Black Primer. I need to try this a few more times before I can give a solid opinion of it. But it's a nice add-on for the kit.

I do like the brush pretty well. It reminds me a little of the Soft Focus Face Brush by Bare Minerals except it's flatter and less full. It has a similar type of soft, synthetic bristles. It's meant to use with the highlighter so one is not tempted to overdo it. But I never let a brush keep me from that!

The bag is just meh. Mostly these free bags are just there to take up space and make it look like you're getting a big bonus gift. I'd rather they cut five bucks off the price and skip the bag. This one's an odd structural design, a stiff, black fabric covered with pink mesh that oddly looks like dish-scrubber mesh. It's pretty roomy though and may come in handy, you never know.

My biggest disappointment in this entire transaction had nothing to do with the kit/products. The very second I ordered it, I wished I'd gone for the auto-delivery plan because the third installment will have a brand new shade of Blush and Brighten called Honeysuckle. And since I'm also an addict of LG Blush and Brighten, a new shade of it is like catnip to me. Immediately, I tried to change the order to Auto-Ship and couldn't. I was afraid if I cancelled my existing order, something would go wrong and I wouldn't get anything. So I contacted QVC's customer service and was assured they would change my order to auto-delivery and I'd be able to see that in my order status. It never happened. I checked the next day, found not only no change to my order but the auto-ship option had disappeared from the website altogether. So I emailed them again and got a response that my original request had been noted and I'd see the change on order status.  But no changes were ever made to my order. PFFFT. Not too pleased about that. Oh, well. He who hesitates is lost, right? And if that's the worst thing that happens this month, then I'm a lucky, lucky girl.

In conclusion, is this kit worth it? If you're a Geller fan, yes. If you're a highlighter fan, yes. If you're a powder foundation fan, yes. If you're mad about beautiful makeup, abso-flippin'-lutely.

Till next time,
